10th Mountain Division (LI) hosts Mountain salute ceremony for incoming deputy commander for support

FORT DRUM, NY — Memorial Park had division leaders, Soldiers, distinguished visitors and guests in attendance July 13 for the welcoming of Col. Gregory K. Anderson to the 10th Mountain Division (LI).

Col. Anderson commissioned into the Infantry from the United States Military Academy in 1991, and is joining the 10th Mountain Division (LI) from his most recent assignment in the U.S. Army Central Command. He’s no stranger to the 10th Mountain Division, as he served as the 2-87 Infantry commander under the Spartan Brigade.

Speaking at the ceremony Brig. Gen. Patrick Donahoe, 10th Mountain Division Deputy Commander, said, “Col. Anderson has done a couple of Mountain Peak exercises here, so he’s no stranger to the training area. He commanded 2-87 Infantry Battalion here on Fort Drum just a few short years ago.”

Some of his previous assignments include the 7th Infantry Division, 1st Armored Division, 75th Ranger Regiment and 173rd IBCT (Airborne).

Col. Anderson is married to the former Luzane Draughon of Memphis, Tenn., and they have three sons together.

“We are absolutely thrilled to be back in the North Country,” said Col. Anderson. “It’s exciting to return and see the growth and direction of the 10th Mountain Division and our community. As Maj. Gen. Walter E. Piatt would say, ready today and relevant tomorrow are two objectives that I am looking forward to helping our team achieve.”

Col. Anderson will be the 10th Mountain Divisions new Deputy Commander for Support.
