2-car crash in the town of Saranac involving a New York State trooper

RAY BROOK, NY — On February 6, 2019, at approximately 5:03 p.m., New York State Trooper Brandon Passno, was operating a marked a 2014 Dodge Charger patrol car, traveling eastbound on State Route 3 in the town of Saranac.

A 2001 Chevrolet S10 pick-up truck operated by Melonie Scheunemann, 55, of Saranac, was traveling westbound on State Route 3. Scheunemann lost control of her vehicle and entered the eastbound lane of traffic, striking Trooper Passno in 1B25 head-on, troopers said.

Scheunemann was transported to the University of Vermont Health Network at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh for a fractured sternum and a fractured right femur.

Trooper Passno was also transported to CVPH for a right hand/wrist injury.
