Joyce E. Loomis, 92, Carthage

CARTHAGE, NY — Joyce E. Loomis, 92, formerly of Spring St., Carthage, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2018, at the Carthage Area Hospital.

Joyce was born on May 25, 1926 in Theresa, the daughter of the late Charles and Estella (Waite) Tousley.

She married George M. Loomis on Oct. 28, 1943, in Evans Mills. Joyce was a domestic for several families and for many years was a lunchtime monitor at Carthage Elementary School. Her husband George died Nov. 15, 2010.

She was a member of the Carthage United Methodist Church, former member of the Eastern Star, the Republican Club and worked for the Jefferson County Election Board.

She is survived by three daughters and their husbands: Nancy and William Nier, Georgette and James Ginger and Janet and James Rushlow, all of Carthage, 6 Grandchildren, 6 Great Grandchildren and 4 Great Great Grandchildren, two sisters: Evelyn Bartlett of Theresa and Kay Bartlett of Canton and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Wendy Jo Loomis who died in 1952, a sister Doris Tousley and three brothers, Lyle Tousley, Ralph Tousley and Louis Reynolds.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2019, at Meadowbrook Terrace with Wayne Arnold officiating. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be at the family’s convenience in Hillside Cemetery, West Carthage.
