Agnes Flynn Keegan, 94, Watertown

WATERTOWN, NY — Agnes Elizabeth Flynn Keegan, 94, resident of Watertown died Friday, Jan. 4, 2019, while surrounded by her loving family. Her last week of life was spent under the care of Hospice of Jefferson County.

Calling hours will be held 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, Jan. 8, at 10 a.m. followed by the funeral Mass celebrated at Holy Family Church at 11 a.m. with Rev. William G. Muench presiding. Agnes was born on Dec. 31, 1924, to William James Flynn and Mary Barnes Flynn in Cape Vincent. In 1927 the family moved to Watertown. She attended Sacred Heart Elementary and Junior High School. At that time, she held her first job washing bottles for the family business, Crystal Springs Water. That continued until she graduated from Immaculate Heart Academy in 1942.

On June 21, 1947, she married William Edward Keegan at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church. Mr. Keegan died Nov. 27, 2012. They were life long communicants of Holy Family Church.

She worked at the New York Air Brake until her marriage. In May of 1948, the couple began their family when their daughter, Mary Ann, was born. In 1970 Agnes returned to work part time for George Towsley and The NY Air Brake. In 1976 Agnes obtained a full time position at the Air Brake and retired in 1987.

We rejoice in her long life full of love, joy, and laughter that she brought to her family and friends. Her smile and laugh were contagious. Her happiest moments were spent visiting with family, friends, and neighbors. She reveled in the accomplishments of her children, grandchildren, and nearly everyone she met. Agnes is remembered for her many acts of selflessness. Throughout her lifetime and despite recent infirmities of old age, she always found the strength and determination to attend all of our family picnics, birthday parties, baptisms, weddings, funerals and especially Ted’s performances.

She is survived by her five children, Deanne Keegan Jones and husband, Gerold, East Aurora; Timothy John Keegan, Johnstown; Peter Gerald Keegan, Burlington, VT; Sarah K. Morgia and husband, Bruce, Watertown and William Edward “Ted” Keegan and husband, David Thiergartner, New York City; six grandchildren, Benjamin Keegan, Meghan Jones Morello and husband Benny, Graham Keegan, Travis Morgia and wife Molly, Tia Morgia and Jonathan Jones; great-granddaughter, Margot Luna Morgia. Also her sister, Sarah Flynn Palumbo, Watertown and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with her husband, Bill, Agnes was predeceased by their daughter, Mary Ann Keegan, three brothers; John W. Flynn, William J. Flynn, Jr. and James F. Flynn and three sisters; M. Catherine Stiegelbauer, Virginia F. Flynn and Margaret F. Henry.
