WATERTOWN, NY — Alfred J. Landon, Sr., 89, Watertown, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 30, at the Sunset Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Boonville, where he had resided since Sept. 11, 2015.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home, Watertown. Spring burial will be in the Clayton Cemetery. Calling hours will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Mr. Landon was born Dec. 8, 1929, in Watertown, NY a son of Edward and Jane Barker Landon. Alfred graduated from Watertown High School in 1948 and served with in the Army during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on Oct. 3, 1953.
Mr. Landon was a supervisor with the US Postal Service at the Watertown Annex for over 20-plus years until his retirement on Oct. 29, 1990.
He married Irene Elliott on Sept. 29, 1954. She passed away April 26, 1993.
Alfred enjoyed boating, camping, hiking and fishing. For several years he and his wife enjoyed their summers spending time at Allen’s Campground and Marina on Lake Ontario, Sackets Harbor.
Mr. Landon is survived by a son, Alfred (Diane) Landon, Jr., Syracuse NY; a daughter, Karen Murray, Watertown, NY; step children, Donna Armstrong, Genoa, NY; Priscilla Kouf, Ithaca, NY; John (Janice) Mosher, Newark Valley, NY; a brother-in-law, Daniel Boothe, Watertown; Â his grandchildren Sidney Wheeler, Jr., Libby (Peter) Dephtereous, Justin (Anne) Murray, Jeffrey Landon and Jessica (Adam) Crouse; great-grandchildren, step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife and parents, Alfred was predeceased by a son, Steven Landon, and a sister, Helen L. Boothe.
