Carol H. Goodfriend, 92, Watertown

WATERTOWN, NY — Carol H. Goodfriend, 92, passed away peacefully at her residence Friday, Sept. 14, where she was surrounded by her family.

The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, at Holy Family Church, with Father Steven Murray officiating. Following the service, a burial will be held in the Turin Cemetery, Turin, NY. Calling hours will be 5 to 7 p.m.. Tuesday, Sept. 18, at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home, Watertown, NY.

Born March 25, 1926, in Watertown, the daughter of Clarence E. and Lucille Seaver Hills, she was educated in the Watertown School District.

Carol married Clarence L. “Bob” Goodfriend on Aug. 31, 1946, at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Robert Wells Youngs officiating. Mr. Goodfriend passed away Jan. 14, 1997.

Carol worked in the Watertown City School District for nearly 20 years as a lunchroom monitor at Knickerbocker Elementary School and as a crossing guard on the corner of Gotham Street and Knickerbocker Avenue. Prior to her employment with the School District, she provided childcare out of her residence.

Carol was an avid reader and animal lover. She enjoyed word search puzzles, and all things Scottish. She was also fond of a man in a uniform.

Carol’s greatest joy, however, was her family. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all.

She is survived by her children, Peter and Donna Goodfriend, Clinton, NY, Polly and Mason Swan, Brownville, NY, and Karen and Brent LeClaire, Watertown, NY; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; her cat, Moses, and her beloved dog, Duffy.

Besides her husband, Clarence, she was predeceased by her siblings, Campbell, Douglas, Bruce, and her best friend, Patricia “Pat” Clark.
