Carol R. Townsend, 87, Lowville

LOWVILLE, NY — Carol R. Townsend, 87, a resident of Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility, passed away on Monday morning, February 25, 2019. A memorial service will be held in the spring at the family’s convenience.

Born June 22, 1931, in Carthage, the daughter of the late Bernard and Edna Ashlaw Mushtare, she was educated in Carthage Schools.

She married Richard J. “Boomer” Townsend on Feb. 18, 1951, at the Lowville Methodist Parsonage. Richard passed away on Jan. 14, 2005.

Carol was first of all a homemaker and when her husband served in the military she worked at the A & P Grocery Store in Lowville. After his return she was a stay at home mother raising her two boys, Doug and Eric. Carol later went back to A & P for many years and then went to work for Beaverite Products in Glenfield and Beaver Falls retiring in 1993.

Surviving Carol are her two sons, Doug of Rochester; and Eric of Lowville; four grandchildren, Jeremiah “Grandpa’s little buddy” Townsend of Florida; Rebekah and Hannah Townsend of Watertown; Jonathan Townsend of Rochester; her sister, Delores Cook of Carthage; a niece, Lynn Tokos; and great nieces.

She is predeceased by her infant sister, Elaine, and her nephew, Kevin Cook.

Carol’s favorite pastime was spending countless hours with her grandchildren. She also went to numerous decoy carving shows with her husband traveling to Brockville, Ontario to Atlantic City, NJ, but their favorite decoy shows were Clayton and Constableville.

She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church were she was an active volunteer when her family was younger.
