Anniversary | Watertown
Edward & Patricia Blackford - 50 Years

Patricia (Patty-Jo) Blackford, daughter of the late Arthur Jones and Ethel Gundersen, Watertown, and Edward (McGee) Blackford, son of the late Edward B. Blackford II, Chauncey, Ohio, and the late Maxine Mabe, Largo, Florida, celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on November 14, 2015.

The couple met when a group of friends got together downtown Watertown and Edward walked Patricia home. The rest is history. They were married on November 14, 1965 at the Church of the Nazarene, Watertown. Patricia was given away by her step-father, Donald Gundersen. Attendants were Susan Weinhold Blackford, cousin of Patricia and Raymond Blackford, brother of Edward’s, both of LaFargeville. A reception was held at Allen’s restaurant courtesy of Patricia’s uncle, the late Claude Weinhold.

Both Edward and Patricia attended Watertown High School. Edward graduated in 1965 and continued on to Trade school in the field of surveying. After retiring from a successful 25 year career in construction survey as Chief of Parties, Ed transitioned to a civil service position with New York State and retired after 20 years of service there as a Civil Engineer 1. Although now officially retired, Ed still works part time as a resident engineer for a consulting firm. Patricia worked from the home raising two beautiful children and completing her GED and then continuing in the BOCES Adult Ed program with coursework in accounting and computer technologies. She eventually entered the workforce and successfully progressed through several managerial positions in retail. She graciously took a break in 1991 to become a caretaker for her grandsons but continued her computer studies. In 2000 she started her own Web Design business, SombraSites and began working as a computer technician at South Jefferson CSD. She retired from this position after 13 years of service and is in the process of downsizing her website business.

Patricia enjoys her daily 8 mile walks, her Elvis Tribute Artist concerts, and spending time with family, especially her sisters. When not working, Ed enjoys weekends of wood cutting, farm tractors, hunting and fishing. Ed is also a very active member of the Adams United Methodist Church and serves as Chairman of the Pastor Parish Relations Committee.

Edward and Patricia are blessed with the love of their close-knit family. They are surrounded by the loving memory of their son, Edward B. Blackford IV, daughter-in-law, Janet of Adams; a daughter, RaeAnn Thomas with son-in-law Robert of Adams. They have four grandsons, Edward B. Blackford V, Patrick Blackford (with wife Kristina), Jordan Thomas, and Nicklaus Thomas.
