CMN Radiothon raises record-breaking $110,447

WATERTOWN, NY — Listeners of DJs Johnny Spezzano from the Border 106.7 and Lance Hale from 94 Rock anxiously awaited this morning’s reveal of the total raised during last week’s 18 Annual CMN Radiothon.

Live on air this morning, Kristin LaClair, CMN Development Manager announced the grand total raised to benefit North Country kids through Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals of Northern New York at Samaritan: a record-breaking $109,187.57. Following the announcement, CMN learned of an additional donation from Community Broadcasters, LLC pushing the total past the $110,000 mark to raise an impressive $110,447 for local kids.

“I have been searching for the words to express how grateful and overwhelmed I am by the generosity of our community members, who continue to give to support this important cause,” said Kristin LaClair, CMN Development Manager. “And to Johnny Spezzano and Lance Hale who somehow find the energy and passion to persevere through three days of live, on-air radio time – energy and passion that I’m sure they get from the kids. Though the stories are not always easy to listen to but for these families, the stories are real. Thank you for opening up your hearts and joining CMN as we continue to help local families. ”

This year’s Radiothon featured nine new inspiring stories of kids helped by CMN, and many families from previous years also stopped by to show their continued support for this program.

Back for its second year, local schools participated in “Change for Kids,” a program developed for kids in our community to become more involved with CMN. Throughout the month of October, students from 15 local schools and two businesses collected change for the Radiothon raising more than $5,000 again this year. For the second year in a row, Carthage Middle School raised the most with a final tally of $1,391.98. The school will receive a live performance from local artist Eddie Cito.

Sponsors of this year’s Radiothon included Norther Federal Credit Union for the Power Hour Match and Haylor, Freyer & Coon for a Miracle Maker to sponsor a child’s story. In addition, Watertown Savings Bank counted the change collected for “Change for Kids”. Additional funds came from members of the community – as young as four – stopping by the station to make donations.

One hundred percent of the funds raised from this event will stay in our local community to benefit children in Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties.

Funds raised will be used to assist families of local children dealing with serious health issues, including travel, medical and equipment expenses. In addition CMN will also purchase critical pediatric equipment for child-centered areas of care at Samaritan Medical Center, including the Neonatal ICU, pediatrics, maternity, surgical services and the emergency department.
