Deputies: Domestic incident at rest area leads to DWI arrests

LOWVILLE, NY — Lewis County sheriff’s deputies responded at 10:40 p.m. Friday, June 1, to a possible fight in progress at the parking area in the median of the four lane section of Route 12 in the town of Leyden and arrested two people for driving while intoxicated.

“Upon arrival, it was determined that Wendy J. Jones, 46, of 3809 Franklin St., Lyons Falls, was traveling northbound on Route 12 in her vehicle with Burton F. Griffith Jr., 47, of 3245 Kipp Rd., Boonville, following behind on a motorcycle when they both pulled into a parking area and became involved in verbal domestic dispute. Through investigation, it was determined that both both parties were intoxicated at the time of operating their respective vehicles. After concluding the investigation into the domestic dispute, Jones and Griffith were both then placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated,” deputies wrote.

Jones was processed and released with appearance tickets for open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle and driving while intoxicated.

Griffith was processed and released with appearance tickets for unregistered motorcycle, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and driving while intoxicated.

A blood alcohol content of 0.08 percent or more is considered proof of intoxication under state law. Deputies did not provide their BACs.
