Evelyn M. Hunt, 92, Brownville

BROWNVILLE, NY — Evelyn M. Hunt, 92, Brownville, widow of James L. Hunt, passed away Friday afternoon on Jan. 4, 2019, at her home with her family by her side.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday, January 12, 2019 at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home, Watertown.  Calling hours are from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the funeral.  Spring burial will be in Brownville Cemetery.

Evelyn is survived by three sons, Timothy (Barbara) Hunt, Brownville, Patrick (Marylouise) Hunt, Black River, Brian Hunt, Brownville; two daughters Kathleen (Shawn) McWayne, Watertown and Karen Hunt, Brownville; 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren; a sister Estella (John) Passage, Carthage; a brother Joseph (Lorraine) Youngs, New Hampshire; many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son John, three grandchildren, Jason Smith, Danny Hunt and Erika Dupee Hunt; two brothers Donald “Bud” Youngs, Philip Youngs; two sisters Arlene Goodfriend and Alice Andrews.

Born April 11, 1926, in Watertown, a daughter to Levi and Flossie Spencer Youngs, she graduated from Watertown schools.  Evelyn worked at Bajjaly’s Grocery Store and the Watertown Daily Times in her younger years.

She married James L. Hunt on April 3, 1948, at St. Patrick’s Church in Watertown.

After raising her children, Evelyn went to work at Garns Supply in Watertown as a secretary in the business office until retiring.  Mr. Hunt, a retired NY Telephone foreman, passed away on April 3, 2004.

Evelyn was a member of the NY Telephone Pioneers of America.  She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, gardening and crossword puzzles.  Evelyn crocheted hats for the new born babies in the maternity ward.
