Harry L. Minnich, Jr., 74, Calcium

CALCIUM, NY — Harry L. Minnich, Jr., 74, Calcium, passed away Sunday morning, Sept. 16, at his home under the care of Hospice and his family.

Calling hours are 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, at Reed & Benoit Funeral Home with a prayer service to follow at 6 pm.

He is survived by his wife Patricia; his daughter Kathryn (Jerry) Evans, Adams Center; his son Harry (Donna) Minnich, St. Robert, MO; his grandchildren Sara Elizabeth Evans, Justin Harmon and Jordan Harmon; his sister Annita (Robert) Kring, Redwood; his nephews Ralph (Beth) Kring and Gene (Penny) Kring; two great nephews Logan and Jayden Kring and a great niece Briella Kring.

Born April 16, 1944, in Rome, NY, a son to Harry and Sadie Wilt Minnich, Sr., he graduated from Rome Free Academy and attended Canton ATC.

Harry married Patricia Mettauer on June 7, 1963.

He was owner and operator of the Copper Tree Gift Shop in Watertown from 1978 to 2003.  Following his retirement from the gift shop, he went to work at Marra’s Homecare, working in the IT department, retiring from there in 2010.

Mr. Minnich was well known for his skills in repairing everything from watch and clock repairs to wheelchairs and was recognized in the Watertown Daily Times as Watertown’s “Mr. Fix It.”

Harry enjoyed his motorcycles, hunting and fishing, and was a gunsmith.  He was a talented pen and ink artist and sculptor. Harry studied at the Munson-Williams-Proctor Art Institute in Utica for 12 years. He was an Eagle Scout.
