Howard C. Schnettler, Jr., 65, Theresa

THERESA, NY — Howard C. Schnettler, Jr., 65, of Church Street, Theresa, died Friday evening, June 8, 2018, at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center, Ogdensburg, NY, where he had been a patient.

Born Nov. 14, 1952, in Buffalo, NY, he was the only child of Howard and Doris Bisonnette Schnettler. The family moved to the Watertown area in the 1960s and he graduated from Watertown High School in 1970.

Howard worked for local grocery stores and in 1985 he began work for the City of Watertown Water Department, retiring in 2014.

In March of 1980 he joined the US Army Reserves and was part of the 479th Engineering Battalion, achieving rank of E-5 (Sargeant), being honorably discharged in 2000.  During this time Howard was awarded two Army Achievement Medals, Army Reserve Comp. Medal with Bronze cluster, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, NCO Professional Development Medal with two stars and Army Service Ribbon.

On April 21, 1984, he married Diana Whitcomb at the Theresa Presbyterian Church.

Howard enjoyed classic cars, kayaking, hunting, hiking and geocaching.

He was a member of the Theresa Progress Group, serving as president and former member of the Theresa Rotary and Highway Legends Car Club.  He was affiliated with the Theresa Food Pantry and served as a Theresa Village Board member.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Diana; cousins and friends.

Memorial Services will be 7 pm Friday, June 15, 2018 at Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Theresa, NY, with Rev. Robert Vrooman, officiating.

A calling hour will be from 6-7 pm prior to the service.
