James H. “Mike” Monica, 74, Watertown

WATERTOWN, NY — James H. “Mike” Monica, 74, Watertown passed away Thursday, Aug. 23, at Samaritan Medical Center.

James was born Oct. 31, 1943, in Watertown, the son of Oliver and Viola Rivers Monica. He attended Watertown High School, and worked for Roukous Grocery Store from 1959 to1965.

In 1965 he went to work for the City of Watertown working for the Department of Public Works, retiring in 1998.

James is survived by his sister, Kay Martin who took great pride in helping her brother with all of his needs. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by his 5 brothers, Oliver, Elmer, Howard, Kenneth, Carl, 3 sisters, Ann Williams, Helen Kelsey and Evelyn Robinson.

James enjoyed wrestling, playing cards, going for rides and stopping at Cracker Barrel for a bite to eat. He also enjoyed a quiet evening sitting on his porch people watching. Most importantly James was a very loving son and brother and he loved everyone.

He was a member of the Northside Improvement League and the Eagles Club.

Per his wishes, there will be no services.
