James L. Sanford, Jr., 55, Plessis

PLESSIS, NY — James “Jimmy” L. Sanford, Jr., 55, of County Route 15, Plessis, died Friday, Nov. 16, 2018, at Crouse Hospital, Syracuse, NY, after his hard-fought battle with cancer.

Born Oct. 23, 1963, in Watertown, NY, a son of James and Juanita House Sanford, he attended LaFargeville Central School.

Jimmy married Karin P. Detwiler on Feb. 12, 1983, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Black River, NY.

He worked as a cream cheese operator for Crowley Foods, LaFargeville, NY, retiring after 27 years.  He was also previously employed at RoDan’s Auto Electric, Watertown, NY, where he rebuilt starters and alternators.

Jimmy was Vice-President of the Rivergate Wheelers ATV Club and a member of the Aldrich Fish and Game Club.

He could be found restoring and enjoying antique cars and hot rods, building a treehouse for the grandchildren, as well as a camp, Shady Rest II, for his family and friends to enjoy together.  He also enjoyed hunting, as well as fishing with Karin, his best fishing partner.  For the past several years, he enjoyed playing in classic rock bands, “Midnight Curfew” and “Philabusters”.  He also shared his wife’s passion for horses, being owner and operators of Little Jimmy’s Creekside Minis, miniature horse farm.

Jimmy and Karin were always busy in their retirement, enjoying quality time with their amazing friends who they loved like family, be it fishing, doing chicken BBQ’s, socializing, boating or playing music.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Karin; a son, Joseph Sanford, Plessis, NY; a daughter, Brooke Parmeter and husband, Matthew, Hammond; four grandchildren, Katrina, Landin and Katelynn Sanford and Witten Parmeter; four sisters, Juanita (Scott) Titus, Syracuse, Sherry Miller, Syracuse, Wanda (Arthur) Calhoun, LaFargeville, Ivy  (Matt) Harrell, FL; five brothers, David (Virginia) Sanford, LaFargeville, Edward Sanford (Colleen Calhoun), Watertown, Ronald Sanford, Watertown, Leslie Carr (Jen Westerdick), Theresa, Wade (Amy) Sanford, LaFargeville; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

His parents and a brother, George Lesinski, all died previously.

Calling hours will be 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, 2018, at the funeral home.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, 2018, at Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Theresa, with Pastor Donna Fitchette, officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather at the LaFargeville American Legion, following services.
