Marilyn J. “Peanut” Burto Lang, 87, Carthage

CARTHAGE, NY — Marilyn Jane “Peanut” Burto Lang, 87, Carthage, passed away Sunday, March 10, 2019, in Carthage.

Marilyn was born on Feb. 21, 1932, in Carthage, the daughter of the late Glenn and Laura (LaLonde) Pierce. Marilyn was known lovingly her entire life as “Peanut”.

She worked as a cook at the Carthage Area Hospital for many years. In the 1970s, she owned and operated Peanuts Diner in Carthage and cooked for several other area diners.

Marilyn loved cooking, making cakes, garage sales, dancing, music and being a wonderful mother and grandmother. She was a strong lady with so much love, there isn’t a person that knew her that didn’t love her. She will be forever missed.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her first husband, William M. Burto who died on June 1, 1976 and her second husband, Robert (Bud) Lang Jr. who died on March 17, 2015. Two sisters, Evelyn Smith and Helen Gates, and a step daughter, Nancy Cheal of Chaumont, also predeceased her.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Timothy and Janet Burto, Thomas and Jennifer Burto and Kevin and Iris Burto, all of Port St. Lucie, FL, Terry and Karen Burto and Kent and Johnna Burto, all of Carthage, Darcy and John Delair, Natural Bridge, and Jeff Burto, Fort Lauderdale, FL; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; her step children, Judy and Joe Brooks, Dexter, Robert Lang III and his companion, Sharon Ridley, Whitensville, MA, and Carol and Charlie Mont, Chaumont.

A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at Fairview Cemetery in Carthage with a “Celebration of her Life” to follow at the Elks Lodge in Carthage. There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements are with the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home, Carthage.
