Martin J. Fraser, Jr., 82, Watertown

WATERTOWN, NY — Martin James Fraser, Jr., 82, of Cross Street, Watertown, passed away, March 1, 2019, at Samaritan Medical Center.

Born Dec. 7, 1936, in Ogdensburg, NY, the son of Martin J. Fraser, Sr. and Gloria Kasten Fraser, he graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy and Jefferson Community College.

Between 1955 and 1959 he was a reservist in the United States Navy. On March 26, 1964, he entered into active duty with the United States Navy, being honorably discharged on Dec. 26, 1975, as a Chief Petty Officer (HTC). While serving in the US Navy he received several service medals including Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and Navy Unit Commendation.

On March 6, 1971, he married Dorothea Sheehan in Pearl City, Hawaii.

Mr. Fraser was a former member of the VFW Post #1400, a current member of the Eagles Lodge #782 and was a volunteer driver for the Disabled Veterans Association.

Mr. Fraser was an accomplished artist, enjoying painting with oil pant, acrylic paint and water color, occasionally having the opportunity to sell his art.

Surviving besides his wife Dorothea are five sons, William A. (Maria) Fraser, California, Richard H. Fraser, Brockton, MA, John J. (Wendy) Fraser, Washington, Martin J. Fraser, IV (Jeanine), New Hampshire, Daniel B. Fraser, Dexter, a daughter, Jane Marie Emory, Mashpee, MA, seventeen grandchildren, one great grandson, several nieces and nephews.

A daughter, Sharon Ann Fraser, and a son, Patrick Fraser, both died previously.

There will be no services at this time. A graveside service with his family present will be scheduled in Arlington National Cemetery.
