Mary I. Hoselton, 101, Brownville

BROWNVILLE, NY — Mary I. Hoselton, 101, Brownville, passed away Monday evening at Samaritan Keep Home, Watertown.

Born Jan. 26, 1917, at home in Limerick, NY, the daughter of William and Lillian Munson Johns, she attended Limerick Elementary School and graduated in 1934 from Dexter High School.

Mary married Gordon S. Hoselton Sr. on Aug. 26, 1946, at the Dexter Presbyterian Church. The couple lived in Brownville where Mary worked as a hairdresser from 1934 and went to a hair studio in 1954 and operated a Hairdressing Shop from her home in 1958, she later worked in the cafeteria at General Brown. She was also a well known seamstress in the village of Brownville.

She is survived by three grandchildren: Eric and Danelle Hoselton of Watertown, John and Nicole Hoselton of Dexter, Kerri Hoselton of Watertown.  She also has five grandchildren: Cooper, Kael, Adrian and Irelynn. She also has one nephew Eric Peterson of Florida.

She was predeceased by her husband Gordon Hoselton Sr. on May 13, 1968, her son W. John Hoselton on Aug, 29, 2016, and Gordon Hoselton Jr. on June 24, 2018. A sister Phoebe Peterson predeceased her on Dec. 16, 2008.

A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church of Brownville with Rev. Ninon Hutchinson officiating. Burial will be in Brownville Cemetery in the spring. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter.
