Mary M. Storms, 73, Carthage

CARTHAGE, NY — Mary M. Storms, 73, of 37264 NYS Route 3, Carthage, died Friday, Nov. 23, 2018, at her home while under the care of her family and Hospice of Jefferson County.

Born Aug. 7, 1945, in Tupper Lake, the daughter of the late Gordon and Gertrude (Mayotte) Ellis, she was a graduate of Tupper Lake High School and Canton ATI where she received her secretarial degree. She was also the student body president.

She married Jon W. Storms on May 20, 1967, at St. Alphonsus Church, Tupper Lake, NY. Mary was employed as the Deputy Clerk for the Town of Wilna in Carthage.

She was a member of the Carthage Area Hospital Auxiliary and the Red Hats. She served on the Carthage Area Hospital Board from 2004 to 2017, serving as president from 2007-2010. She also served on the Carthage Area Hospital Foundation Steering Committee from 2005-2007, the Meadowbrook Board from 2010 to 2017 and was the Town of Wilna Planning Board Secretary from 2009 to 2017.

She is survived by her husband: Jon W. Storms, one daughter: Patricia Bush and her fiancé Lee Davis of Carthage and one son and his wife: John and Lisa Storms of Carthage; four grandchildren; Jon Benjamin Storms of Carthage, Brandon Bush and his fiancé Allie Brady of Carthage, Kaitlin Storms and her fiancé Matt Brennessel of Parish and Megan Bush of Carthage, a brother: Gordon Ellis of Oneonta and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Two sisters, Noreen Lorenzetti and Anne Tooley, died before her.

Calling hours will be 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home, Carthage, with a memorial service to follow at 6:00 p.m. with Rev. Donald A. Robinson officiating.
