Moose Hit by SUV in Town of Pamelia

WATERTOWN, N.Y., Sept. 29, 2007 —  A woman suffered minor injuries Saturday morning when her SUV hit and killed a moose, according to Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies.

Michelle O. Atchie, 45, of 630 E. Main St., was hurt at about 6:36 a.m. after a moose ran into the path of her 2003 Hyundai, deputies said. The accident took place on outer W. Main Street, County Route 190, near the Interstate 81 overpass in the town of Pamelia. Deputies said the moose entered from the north side of the roadway as Ms. Atchie was traveling eastbound.

She was taken to Samaritan Medical Center by Guilfoyle Ambulance with a bruise to her head, deputies said.

Members of the Glen Park Fire Department, Watertown Police Department and Department of Environmental Conservation assisted deputies at the scene.
