N. Rutland Street apartment extensively damaged by fire

WATERTOWN, NY — City firefighters responded at 3:54 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, to a structure fire at 251 N. Rutland St. and reported flames and smoke showing from a second floor apartment. All occupants safely evacuated the apartment house.

The fire was reported extinguished at 4:20 a.m., according to fire radio traffic.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Firefighters were assisted at the scene by Watertown police, Guilfoyle Ambulance, American Red Cross, National Grid, Code Enforcement and Water Department.

According to city records, the property is owned by Dion G. Granger of Carthage.
