Nathan F. Houppert, 77, Carthage

CARTHAGE, NY — Nathan F. Houppert, 77, of Meadowbrook Terrace, Carthage, died Wednesday morning, Feb. 27, 2019, in the emergency room at Carthage Area Hospital after being stricken at his residence.

Nathan was born on June 5, 1941, in Castorland, the son of the late Jacob E. (Bob) and Ella (Closs) Houppert. In his early years, Nathan moved to West Carthage with his parents and lived on Stone St. and attended school there. He worked for Altamont Dairy along with his father in the 1960s and delivered milk and dairy products to the surrounding villages. From 1975 until 2009, Nathan worked at Jefferson Rehabilitation Center, Production Unlimited in Watertown and retired from there. In 1984, along with his parents, they moved to West Side Terrace and were one of the original tenants.

Nathan was a communicant of St. James Church of Carthage.

He is survived by an Aunt, Mrs. Roy Venetha (Pat) Houppert of Croghan and several cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents and several aunts and uncles.

Nathan enjoyed being with family and friends, playing bingo and shuffleboard and the many activities at West Side Terrace. He will be remembered for his friendliness and spontaneous smile.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, March 4, at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home, Carthage with Rev. Donald A. Robinson officiating. Burial will be in the Spring in St. Stephens Cemetery, Croghan. Friends may call noon to 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
