WATERTOWN, N.Y.  —  It may be a while before the North Country is introduced to the Big Bite hot dog as 7-Eleven is focusing renovations of Wilson Farms and Sugar Creek markets into its own franchises in Western New York first.

7-Eleven Inc., Dallas, bought all 188 Wilson Farms Neighborhood Food Stores throughout the state in June 2011, including its franchises bearing the Sugar Creek name, and began renovations to existing stores last fall.

“What we’re doing now is we are focusing on the Buffalo area first,” said 7-Eleven spokeswoman Margaret A. Chambris. “That’s where we have a concentration of stores plus our own stores, so we’re doing a little bit of upgrading on our existing stores and doing some remodeling and converting Wilson Farms stores there.

Nine Wilson Farms stores throughout the Buffalo area were among the first to bear the white, green and orange signs last year, with locations including East Amherst, Niagara Falls, Lancaster and Tonawanda now completely renovated.

“There’s a lot of work to do when you’ve got 188 store acquisitions so I can’t tell you a timeframe for Buffalo or Eastern New York,” Chambris told Newzjunky.com Monday. “You have everything from the retail information system to equipment and product selection, especially when you’re trying to marry the best of both companies.

Sugar Creek stores in the North Country, with locations from Watertown to Potsdam, will likely see no conversions anytime in the early part of the year as the next round of renovations will shift to the Rochester area.

“We’re working on several others that will be converted in March,” Chambris said.

7-Eleven offers customers its signature drink, the Slurpee, Big Gulp fountain drinks, Big Bite hot dogs, coffee, fruit, salads and sandwiches, Chambris said in a news release.
