LOWVILLE, N.Y.
— On Monday, February 6,
at 10am, Kevin M. McArdle will formally announce his candidacy for Lewis County Court Judge. The public is invited to attend. The announcement will be held on the steps of the Lewis County Court House on State Street in Lowville, New York.
The Lewis County judgeship, which also covers Family Court and Surrogate Court, has been vacant since January 1, when Judge Charles C. Merrell was elected to state Supreme Court. Merrell won the seat in November’s general election.
“After practicing law in Lowville since 1982, most of that time spent working side by side with some of Lewis County’s finest judges, I feel I’m very prepared to do a good job on the bench,” said McArdle. “I would consider it a great honor to serve the citizens of Lewis County as their County Court Judge.”
Kevin McArdle has been practicing law for almost 30 years, including over 20 years as a Court Attorney and Confidential Law Clerk advising Lewis County judges: Judge J. Robert Lynch, Hon. John S. Parker, Hon. Nathaniel B. Merrell, and for the last ten years, Judge Charles C. Merrell.
From January, 1994 to December, 2002, McArdle served as Lewis County Attorney. He represented and advised the Board of Legislators, county officials and employees on all legal matters.
Before going to work full-time for Lewis County Court Judge Charles Merrell as his Confidential Law Clerk in 2002, McArdle had a private law practice in Lowville for 16 years. He specialized in Municipal Law (representing 9 towns and 2 villages), Elder Law, Matrimonial Law, Civil Litigation, Real Estate and Estates.
McArdle is a member and past president of the Lewis County Bar Association. He has served two terms as a Delegate to the New York State Bar Association, and he currently serves on the State Bar’s Committee of Attorneys in Public Service. For ten years he served on the Board of the Legal Aid Society of Mid-New York, and he currently is a member of the local Surrogate Decision Making Committee.
Kevin McArdle is a faculty member at Jefferson Community College teaching “Civil Litigation” and “Real Property Law” in the Paralegal program. McArdle is also a popular lecturer in the Judicial Education Program for Town and Village Justices. He has developed and taught programs across New York State from Niagara Falls to Manhattan on “Summary Proceedings”, “Search and Seizure”, “Civil Litigation”, and “Controlling Your Courtroom”.
McArdle received a Bachelor’s degree Magna Cum Laude from St. John Fisher College in 1979, and a Law Degree with Honors from Albany Law School in 1982. He was admitted to practice law in New York in 1983 and in Florida in 1984.
Kevin McArdle is very involved in the community. He belongs to the Lowville Elks Lodge (Past E.R. and Judge Advocate) and the Lowville Lions Club (Past President). McArdle worships at St. Peter’s Catholic Church (Communicant and Lector), has coached Little League and AYSO Soccer, and was Advocate of the Year for Oneida-Lewis County ARC.
McArdle and his wife Susan reside in West Martinsburg. They are the proud parents of Michael McArdle, a caseworker at Lewis County Department of Social Services, and Caitlin, a recent graduate of St. Lawrence University who works for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company.
