Aubertine
Honors Handshake Pledge, Pulls TV and Radio Ads
Media Release
WATERTOWN,
N.Y., Feb. 19
— Darrel Aubertine has honored the handshake agreement that he and Will Barclay made to remove radio and television ads about their opponents during the final days of the campaign for the 48th District Senate seat.
During the debate Sunday, both candidates agreed to remove television and radio ads that are perceived to be negative. As of 10 a.m. this morning, all the advertising managers at local television and radio outlets were told to take down the advertisements that mention Darrel’s opponent. Monday's holiday had prevented ads from being pulled down earlier.
“To me, a handshake and a person's word mean something,” Aubertine said. “We agreed to focus on positive campaigning for the duration of this race and I'm making every effort to do just that. I hope Will keeps his word, honors our handshake, and does the same.”
Aubertine and Barclay made this pledge during Sunday's debate at SUNY Oswego. Barclay said at the time, "I'm happy to pull what's perceived as negative from our side."
“This was an agreement that was made in front of 300 people," said Aubertine for Senate Campaign Manager Cathy Calhoun. "Darrel is honoring his end. Now the ball is in Will Barclay's
court.”
The campaign has been told by local television stations that the ads mentioning Darrel’s opponent should be off the air by the end of the day.
Darrel has said again that he will focus his campaign in the final days on local job retention, affordable healthcare and property tax cuts."
