Doheny Wins Endorsements
Oneida County Republican Committee, GOP Leaders Back Newcomer’s Candidacy

Media Release

WATERTOWN, N.Y.,
April 12, 2010
The Oneida County Republican Committee tonight endorsed the candidacy of North Country resident and businessman Matt Doheny to represent New York’s 23rd Congressional District.
The committee joins GOP leaders from Clinton, Essex and Jefferson counties in backing the political newcomer’s bid for the U.S. House of Representatives.

The endorsements come on the heels of Doheny’s three-day campaign kick-off tour last week, during which he visited each of the 11 counties in the nearly 15,000-square-mile district to officially announce his candidacy. Doheny, a lifelong Republican who lives in Watertown, is seeking the endorsements of the Republican, Conservative, and Independence parties.

“I’m incredibly grateful to the Oneida County Republican Committee and many others across the district for their early and important support,” Doheny said. “As I said to everyone I met last week and during my travels across the 23rd over the past months, I’m in this to win it, and to bring back to North Country residents the representation they want and need.”

Party Chairs Eye Success in November

From the campaign tour’s opening event in Watertown, in Jefferson County, to its stops in Essex, Clinton, Franklin, Fulton, Hamilton, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, Oswego, and St. Lawrence counties, supporters praised Doheny’s knowledge of the 23rd district and its economic needs, as well as his business background and dedication to fiscal responsibility, limited government, and support for the military.

They also voiced their belief in Doheny’s ability to bring the district back to conservative representation. “Matt Doheny is the best candidate to represent the Republican Party in the upcoming debates with liberal Democrat Bill Owens,” Essex County Republican Party Chairman Ron Jackson said. “He’s the most energetic, hardest-working, most knowledgeable and best-spoken Republican candidate. He has never strayed from our Republican values and will run as a Republican or not at all.”

Clinton County Republican Party Chairman Donald Lee endorsed Doheny as “a guy who gets the job done, and that’s what we need in Washington." Lee believes that Republicans and Conservatives must “avoid a split ticket like last year.”

From Watertown, Jefferson County Republican Party Chairman Don Coon commented: “Matt's constant effort to meet the people of the district, listen to their concerns, and understand the differing issues that effect the various portions of the 23rd Congressional District is impressive. Often working 16-hour days, he demonstrates the work ethic that made him successful in the highly competitive financial industry. I am confident that his ability to quickly grasp complex issues and understand how those issues will affect the people of the 23rd will serve us well in Congress.”
