Griffo Says He's Assessing the Situation

ALBANY, N.Y., June 2, 2009  —  Senator Joseph A. Griffo today confirmed that he has been approached regarding the 23rd District Congressional seat, and that he is considering the opportunity. 

“I am honored to be fielding questions regarding my intentions in the 23rd Congressional District, as the people of Northern New York seek to replace Congressman John McHugh – who has represented the North Country so well during his tenure in Congress,” said Griffo. 

“I am proud to be serving the people of Central and Northern New York, and I am flattered that the people I represent in St. Lawrence, Lewis and Oneida County would want me to take my legislative service in a new direction and work to address the issues of our communities in Congress.”

Griffo said that due to the suddenness of the announcement that McHugh would be nominated as Secretary of the Army, he is assessing the situation.

“The District needs a Republican candidate who is in tune with the needs of the people of Northern and Central New York and is experienced in advocating for the region with a reputation for advancing new perspectives to confront our challenges,” Griffo said. “In the coming days, I will explore the options and listen to my constituents to determine the best way I can continue to be of service to the people of Central and Northern New York State.”
