Still Interested in Running for 23rd Congressional Seat
OSWEGO, N.Y., July 23, 2009
— Statement from John T. Sullivan Jr., currently the deputy
Medicaid inspector general, formerly the mayor of Oswego mayor and a former assistant attorney general in the Watertown office:
“Darrel Aubertine has been and remains a very dedicated and talented representative of the people of Northern and North Central New York in the NYS Senate. The decision to continue serving his constituents is to be respected, and valued. There is much more to be done to make New York State Government functional again.
I am confident that Darrel’s hard work and dedication , and just plain good old common sense, will continue to pay dividends for those of us who call NNY home. It is clear that he puts people before politics, and I applaud his determination to remain a vital player in the forces that will work to shape this state’s future, and make it a brighter one for all of us.
As far as the race for Congress in the 23rd District is concerned, I have made my availability known to the leaders of the Democratic party in the eleven counties involved, and to Democratic leaders on the State and National level as well.
I am a great believer in fate, and if it is meant to be that I should be selected to champion the cause of the hard working people of the 23rd Congressional District as the nominee of the Democratic party, that course will soon become apparent.
In the coming days I will be consulting with those leaders, and with others, to determine if furthering that potential candidacy is appropriate.
In the interim, I believe we all owe Darrel a debt of gratitude for making a responsible, if difficult choice, to stay the course in the NYS Senate, and complete the goals he set out to achieve."
