Firefighters Rescue Man from Apartment Fire on Sterling

WATERTOWN, N.Y. — A
man was pulled from the
upstairs of 201 Sterling St. by city firefighters after fire erupted in his apartment Sunday morning.
The Watertown Fire Department was dispatched to the blaze
by Jefferson County 911 at
8:31 a.m.
"When crews arrived they found smoke coming from a
second floor apartment," Fire Chief Dale C. Herman
said. "Crews made entry into the apartment, found a
victim and removed the victim."
Raymond
E. Lee III, 36, of 201 Sterling St., Apt. 6, was taken by Guilfoyle Ambulance to a landing zone
in Pulaski and transported by helicopter to Upstate
Medical University in Syracuse.
He is listed in critical condition, according to the
Watertown Fire Department.
Mr. Lee was removed from his apartment by firefighters
Jeffrey S. Narrow and Troy A. Chisamore.
Fire was contained to apartment 6, however apartments on
the ground floor did suffer water damage.
The owner of the building which contains nine apartments,
eight of which were currently occupied, is Perry F. McIntosh, Adams Center.
The Red Cross has been called to scene to assist with the
displaced tenants who were gathered at the American Legion.
The blaze is currently being investigated by state fire
investigators who arrived on scene at 10:45 a.m.
No other injuries have been reported.
City firefighters were assisted at the scene by the Fort
Drum Fire Department, Guilfoyle Ambulance, Watertown
Police Department and National Grid.
