PLESSIS, N.Y.  —  Instead of accepting a change of address, the Plessis Post Office will file one tomorrow.

On Saturday, Dec. 29, the Redwood Post Office will welcome Plessis customers as the Postal Service explores alternate quarters for the Jefferson County hamlet’s post office. 

Postal officials report that the Postal Service is being evicted from its present location at 25971 State Route 26 as the owners have new plans for the use of that site. Residents were notified about the eviction earlier this fall and received a postcard with additional details on the move to Redwood. 

The Redwood Post Office, located at 43711 State Route 37, will serve more than 70 post office box holders from Plessis. Box holders will be assigned a new key as part of their first visit to Redwood. Affected residents will continue to use their current Plessis address.

Weekday window hours at the Redwood Post Office are 8 am to 1 pm and 2 pm until 4:15 pm. The Redwood postal lobby remains open for access to post office boxes during lunch hours. 

Saturday hours in Redwood are 8:30 am to 11 am for access to post office boxes and window services. 

No timetable for a return of postal services to the community has been established.
