Nicolina J. Goutremout, 79, Adams

ADAMS, NY — Nicolina J. Brown Goutremout, 79, passed away Sunday, October 7th, in her home surrounded by her loved ones.

Nicolina, the daughter of Kenneth and Cecelia Castro-Brown, was born August 13th, 1939, in Watertown, NY. She attended Watertown city schools.

She was previously married to George Toper and Floyd Goutremout both ending in divorce.

At the age of 16, she started working for Charlie Close at the Karmelkorn shop in the Paddock Arcade. It was there that she found her love of serving the public great food and delicious treats. She was often referred to by the locals as the “popcorn lady”.

In the early 1980s, along with her sister, Joan and brother-in-law, Mike, they opened up the Candy Corner in downtown Watertown. Pralines were the all-time favorite among the locals.

In 1987, she opened up her own diner, Nicky’s Luncheonette, on public square. As the owner of the popular eating establishment, she would wake up before the sun and start prepping meals for the daily diner goers. She enjoyed interacting and sharing her delicious food with her customers.

Nicky enjoyed going to the casinos with her sister Barbara as well as playing poker with family. She enjoyed going to bingo at different locations in the Watertown area. She enjoyed shopping with her best friend Caroline Heath in any type of weather, but especially during a blizzard. One of the most important things to Nicky was her family. Her grandchildren brought her pure happiness. Spending time with her family at special occasions, playing cards, and just being together was joyous to her.

Nicolina is remembered with love by her children and their families; Ron, Kristi, Stephanie, Tyler, Cayson Goutremout of Adams, NY. and Cynthia, Paul, Kayleigh, Tim Bigness of Rochester, N.H. Step children Shelley, Christopher, Crystal, and Scott Goutremout; Two sisters, Barbara Lockman and Joan (Michael Mistersaro) and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded by her parents, and two brothers, Edley and Richard Brown.

At Nicolina’s request there will be no funeral services or calling hours.

Burial will be private at a later date.
