— Mary A. Davis, 87, of Sunrise Drive,
Oswego, and formerly of Theresa died Thursday, Jan. 3, at Oswego Hospital. She had been transferred from Sunrise Nursing Home, Oswego, where she had been a resident.
Born July 12, 1920, in Theresa, daughter of Lawrence and Adeline Gloor Garceau, she graduated from Theresa High School in 1937. She also received midwife training at Belleville Hospital, New York City.
She married Claude Davis on Feb. 8, 1939. Mr. Davis was a soldier in the
Army and was transferred throughout the country during their marriage, including
Okla., N.C., Pine Camp, now Fort Drum, and Sackets Harbor.
Mrs. Davis worked as a midwife and upon her return to the area worked for Kenneth and June Brown of Theresa as a housekeeper and child care provider.
She was a member of St. Theresa of Avila Altar and Rosary Society, Theresa.
She also enjoyed watching television and her grandchildren.
Surviving are four daughters and two sons-in-law, Linda Davis, Black River, Tina and Peter Guido, Mexico, Elizabeth and Victor Reese, Sandy Creek, and Joan Harris, Clayton; six sons and four daughters-in-law, John and Lynne,
Linnwood, Wa., Gary and Elaine, Pittsford, Claude, Jr. “Butch”, Carthage, Terry “Yogy” and Mary,
Middletown, Michael, Black River, and Larry and Betty, Tallahassee,
Fla.; thirty three grandchildren; several great grandchildren; two sisters, Grace
Garceau, Glenndive, Mont., and Eileen Baltz, Omar; and two brothers, John Garceau, Omar and Lawrence
Garceau Jr., Ogdensburg.
She is predeceased by a son, Andre, and a daughter (name unknown), both in infancy, a grandson, Wade Savage, in 1977, three sisters, Bertha Brown, Elsie Jones, and Gloria Garceau at age five, and a brother, Joseph
Garceau.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church with Rev. Mark Reilly officiating. Burial will be in the spring at Oakwood Cemetery, Theresa. Calling hours are 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Inc., 38422
