Jacob J. Kasper

GLENFIELD, N.Y.  —  Jacob J. “Jake” Kasper, 74, died at his home on River Street, Sunday Jan. 6, where he was under the care of his wife and Lewis County Hospice.

A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at the Sundquist Funeral Home in Lowville, NY. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Born Feb. 26, 1933, in the Bronx, New York, son of Jacob and Rose Filkowski Kasper, he graduated from Arts High School in Newark, N.J. He served in the Army from 1953 to 1955 achieving the rank of corporal. He also was an Army reservist for eight years.

In 1978, Mr. Kasper married Karen L. Handville in Summit, N.J. He was employed by Philips Lighting Corporation, in Bloomfield, N.J., as a chemical processor for thirty-three years. 

In his spare time, he enjoyed etching pastels, drawing pictures in pencil, crossword puzzles and reading. His passion was science fiction movies on TV.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Garry J. Kasper, Coney Island, New York, and Jeffery W. Kasper, Blairstown, N.J.; a sister and her husband, Mary and John Nasiatka, Orlando, Fla.; a sister-in-law, June R. Markwith, Hopatcong, N.J.; two grandchildren, a great granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews. 

Two brothers and two sisters died before him.
