Dick E. Murphy Sr.

WATERTOWN, N.Y.
 —  Dick E. Murphy Sr., 71, Midtown Towers, passed away Thursday, Jan. 5, at Samaritan Medical Center where he had been a patient since Dec. 22. 

Mr. Murphy was a cab driver for Yellow Cab in Watertown retiring after 30 years of service. 

Born Oct. 29, 1940, in Watertown, a son to Robert E. and Thelma Vest Murphy, he was educated in Watertown schools and served with the Navy Reserves.  

He worked for Knowltons Paper Mill for several years before going to work for Yellow Cab. 

Mr. Murphy was a member of the Midtown Towers Tennants Association.  

He enjoyed old movies and spending time with his family.  

Dick married Sally Augustus in 1960. 

Surviving are his ex-wife, Sally, Brownville; a son and his wife, Dick and Kathy Murphy Jr., Watertown; three daughters and a son-in-law, Nanette and Daniel Adams, and Amy Murphy, all of Watertown, Sherry Webb and her companion, Donald Kiblin, Wilmington, N.C.; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert C. Murphy, Watertown, and John Stevie, Leonardsville, N.Y.; three sisters, Rosemary Taylor, Leonardsville; Jean (James) Reynolds and Ann (Tino) Pacific, all of Watertown; several nieces and nephews.  

A great-granddaughter, Alivia Burkhard, and a brother, William Stevie, both died before him. 

Per Mr. Murphy's wishes, calling hours and funeral services will be held privately for the convenience of the family at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home.  

Spring graveside services will be held for the public in North Watertown Cemetery.
