Deborah W. Shortt, 52, St. Cloud, Fla., and
formerly of Alexandria Bay, died Tuesday, Jan. 3, at Orlando
Medical Center, Orlando, Fla.
Born March 20, 1959, in Wichita Falls, Texas, the daughter
of Earl J. and Dorothy E. “Elaine” Bidinger Shortt, she
was a graduate of Alexandria Bay Central and Bryant and
Stratton School of Business,
She had worked for her father at Shortt’s Marina,
Alexandria Bay and as a security guard for Wells Fargo in
Florida
She married James Pledger on Dec. 17, 1977.
Ms. Shortt loved doing things for her grandchildren, niece
and nephew, spending time on the St. Lawrence River,
traveling, writing poems, drawing, birds and all animals.
Surviving besides her parents, Earl and Dorothy E.
“Elaine” Shortt Jr., Redwood; a son, Benjamin J. Pledger
and his wife, Jennifer, Adams; a daughter, Jessica A. Towles
and her husband, Donald Towles III, Watertown; a brother,
Kristopher S. Shortt and his wife Laurie, Merritt Island,
Florida; a sister, Jennifer S. Shortt, Watertown;
grandchildren, Ryan Towles, Sarah Towles and Carleigh
Pledger; aunts and uncles, Charles Shortt, Redwood, Jon and
Marjori Shortt, _Shiloh, Tennessee, Paul and Roxanne Shortt,
Alexandria Bay, Mary Jane Hall, Sacramento, Calif., Celeste
Bidinger, Sacramento, Calif.; a nephew, Joshua J. Shortt
Jobson, Watertown; a niece Mackenzie Shortt Jobson,
Watertown; numerous cousins and friends.
Her grandparents, Earl J. and Clara W. Johnson Shortt and
James G. and Dorothy J Bidinger, a great uncle, William
Johnson, and a great aunt, Alice Johnson, all died before
her.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 13, at St. Paul’s
Lutheran Church Redwood with Pastor Mindy Bjorkman
officiating. Burial will be at Barnes Settlement Cemetery,
Alexandria Bay.
Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, at
Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Inc., Theresa.
