Martin J. Hirschy Sr.

LOWVILLE, N.Y. —  Martin J. Hirschy Sr., 72, of 8633 State Route 812, died early Wednesday morning, Jan. 10, at the Lewis County General Hospital, where he had been a patient since Sunday.   

The Funeral Service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., 5702 Waters Road, Lowville, with Loren Widrick, Pastor, of Grace Community Church, Adams, officiating.  Spring burial will be in the Martinsburg Cemetery.  

There will be no calling hours.

Surviving are five children, a daughter and son-in-law, Karen S. and Stephen Aubertine, Redwood; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia M. and Bruce Petzoldt, Beaver Falls; a son and daughter-in-law, Martin J. Jr. and Deborah Hirschy of Beach Lake, Pa.; a daughter and son-in-law, Debra H. and Timothy Sanders of Brewerton, N.Y.; a daughter, Denise Thomas of Syracuse; a sister and brother-in-law, Berneda and Herbert Farney of Lowville; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

orn June 15, 1934 in Lowville, a son of the late Louis C. and Vera M. Jackson Hirschy, he graduated from Lowville Academy in 1951. 

On Aug. 27, 1953, he married Naomi F. Mellnitz at her parent’s home in Naumburg with Rev. Norman Pousey, officiating.  Mrs. Hirschy died on August 6, 2006.  

Together with his wife, they were in partnership with his parents from 1955 to 1959. 

In 1959, the couple purchased a dairy farm on the West Road in Martinsburg and operated until 1978, when they went into partnership with their son and daughter-in-law, Martin Jr. and Deborah until 1996, upon retirement.  Mr. Hirschy moved to his current residence in September 2001. 

He was a past member and director of the Lowville Producers Dairy Co-Op.  He was a past member of Hoganville Hunting Club.  

He was a member of the Lowville Baptist Church.  He enjoyed hunting and bowling with his wife, Naomi.
