Essie Marie Davis, 55, of Elm Ridge Road, died
Monday, Jan. 9, at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown.
Born July 30, 1956, in
Watertown, the daughter of Durwood and Thelma Davis Lashaw,
she graduated in 1974 from Indian River Central School.
She married William E.
Davis on May 30, 1975, at the Episcopal Church in Evans
Mills.
Mrs. Davis was employed her whole life in the food service
industry. She started as a waitress at the Harvest House
(Woolworth's) in 1975. She later ran the Medical Center
Coffee Shop in Watertown. She also worked at Indian River
Central School in the food service department. For the last
ten years, she was employed at Bob Evans Restaurant in
Watertown as a cook.
She devoted her life to loving her family. Not only her
immediate family but also to anyone that needed her. She and
her husband opened their home to William Matteson who became
her adopted son from the time that he was a young teen. Many
young people referred to her as “Mom”.
Mrs. Davis enjoyed four wheeling with her family and
friends, fishing, playing cards and traveling to see her
son.
She was devoted to her grandchildren and was a loving sister
and aunt.
Surviving are her loving and devoted husband of 37 years,
Bill; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Major William D. and
Everetta, Colorado Springs, Colo, Raymond E. and his
companion, Yvonne Marshall, Depauville, and Benjamin P. and
his companion, Tonya Roy, Evans Mills; a daughter and her
husband, Angel A. and Michael Howard, Watertown; 10
grandchildren; a sister and her husband, Ann and Phillip
Gilchrist, Evans Mills; nieces and nephews.
Her parents died before her.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at Frederick
Bros. Funeral Home, Theresa. Burial will be in Evans Mills
Cemetery.
Calling hours are 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, at
the funeral home.
