Charlotte
T. Austin, 79, of Artz Road, died Friday evening, Jan. 13,
at Lewis County General Hospital, Lowville.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, at Iseneker
Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville, with Rev. Bruce W. Chapman and
Rev. Linda Harris officiating. Burial will be in Riverside
Cemetery Annex, Beaver Falls. Calling hours will be 11 a.m.
to 1 p.m. prior to the funeral at the funeral home.
Born Dec.
11, 1932, in the town of Croghan, a daughter of the late
Elmer J. and Mary Smith Taylor, she graduated in 1950 from
Beaver River Central School and from Lewis County School of
Nursing.
She married Bert A. Austin on May 19, 1951, at the Lowville
United Methodist Church with Rev. Kendall Scouten,
officiating.
Charlotte worked as a nurse for Carthage Area Hospital and
Lewis County Hospice for several years.
She was a member of the Beaver Falls United Methodist Church
and the church’s United Methodist Women.
She was a member of the Beaver River Memorial Post #1663,
Auxiliary, Lewis County Memorial Post #6912, Auxiliary, Tug
Hill Quilters, Lewis County Friendship Quilters, Black River
Campers. She was a charter member of Lewis County
Hospice Volunteers, she served on the Board of Directors of
the BRCS Student Loan Fund, was Program Coordinator for the
Lewis County Arthritis Group, where she received outstanding
volunteer for the National Arthritis Foundation in 1998 and
2000. She was a member of the Beaver Falls Senior
Citizens Club.
Together with her husband, the couple were foster parents
for many years.
Surviving are
her husband of 60 years Bert; a son, Barry J. Austin, Beaver
Falls; a daughter and son-in-law, Beth and James Monnat,
Croghan; a son-in-law, Birlyn Flint, Wakefield, Mass.; a
brother, Elmer J. Taylor, Fabius; two sisters and
brother-in-law, Joanne and Kenneth Austin, Lowville, and
Marcia Dinkle, Manlius; four grandchildren, Jessica Monnat,
Mindi Narzymski, Rebecca and Patrick Flint, five
great-grandchildren, Sophia and Hunter Kirnie, Joseph
“JJ” and Robert, and Ava Narzymski,
(Ava is due in March); and several nieces and nephews.
A daughter, Janet M. Austin, died Sept. 19, 1998.
