William L. Manning

THERESA, N.Y.  —  William L. Manning, 76, of Silver Street Road, died Saturday, Jan. 14, at his home while under the care of his family and Hospice of Jefferson County. 

A graveside service will be held 3 p.m. Friday, April 13, in Redwood Cemetery.

Born April 17, 1935, in Theresa, the son of Lawrence and Edith A. Shepherd Manning, he attended Theresa High School. 

A marriage to Nancy Collins ended in divorce. He married Nancy Bartlett on Dec. 17, 1988, at Redwood United Methodist Church. The couple lived in Redwood until moving to Theresa in 2001. 

Mr. Manning was a truck driver and heavy equipment operator and was employed with S & S Salvage, Pamelia, Thompson Farms, LaFargeville, Flicks, LaFargeville, Clements, Watertown,  TI Ready Mix, LaFargeville and Williamson Trucking, Watertown. 

He was an avid racing fan, both local and NASCAR, enjoyed watching birds, playing cards and spending time with his children and grandchildren.   

Surviving besides his wife, Nancy are three sons and a two daughters-in-law, Brett and Sonja, RI, Jeff, Hammond and Lawrence, Avon; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Sandy and Larry Garceau, Theresa, BJ Demarco and her companion, Randy Bowman, Watertown and Lynda and Terry DeYoung, Longview, Texas; a step son, Larry Ellis, Jr., Barnwell, S.C.; a stepdaughter, Roxanne Witt, Brooksville, Fla.; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, including granddaughter, Sarah Ellis, who was raised by her grandparents. 

Two daughters, Debbie Manning and Kim Manning, two sisters, Mary Tibbles and Marjorie Knight and three brothers, Ken, Don and Buster, all died before him. 

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, at Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Inc., Theresa. 

Calling hours are 4 to 7 pm Wednesday, Jan. 18, at the funeral home in Theresa.
