Cornelia L. Schnauber

DEPAUVILLE, N.Y.  —  Cornelia L. Schnauber, 91, of Caroline Street, died Friday, Jan. 13, at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown, after a short illness. 

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, at the Depauville Methodist Church with Pastor Donald Briant officiating. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Corners Cemetery. Calling hours will be 3 to 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, at the T.R. Jetty Funeral Home in Clayton.  

Born Dec. 29, 1920, in Watertown, the daughter of Melzer and Francis Toogood Henry, she graduated from Clayton Schools and Rider College in New Jersey. 

She married William Schnauber on Dec. 28, 1940, at her parents home with Reverend Albert Walker officiating. Mr. Schnauber died April 6, 1999.  

Mrs. Schnauber worked as a bookkeeper for 22 years at Frinks Snowplow. From 1973 to 1984 she was Clayton Village Clerk. Being active in Civic affairs she was Treasurer of the Consolidated Health Board and the Depauville Sewer District Board, which she was just re appointed. 

As a member of Depauville Methodist Church for 72 years she held many positions. 

Mrs. Schnauber joined the Depauville Order Of the Eastern Star in 1945, and was a past matron. She was also a district deputy grand matron of the Jefferson County District. She was also an Election Board Inspector for many years. 

She enjoyed baking, playing scrabble, cards, crocheting, bowling, dancing, and camping. 

Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Linda Schnauber, Depauville, Donna and Randy Iloff, Clayton; two sons and their wives, William and Judy, Rochester, and Lynn and Pamela, Depauville; 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Donald (Madelyn) McAvoy, Clayton; nieces and nephews. 

A son, Francis, died in 2007.
