ADAMS, N.Y. — Douglas
M. Claflin Sr., 85, of Liberty Street, passed away Saturday,
Jan. 14, at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown, where he
had been a patient for one week. He had been a
resident of the Samaritan Keep Home for a month.
Graveside services will be held in the spring in Elmwood
Cemetery, Adams. There are no calling hours. Arrangements
are with the Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home, Belleville.
Born Sept. 4, 1926, in the town of Ellisburg, a son of Elmer
and Minnie Moore Claflin, he served with the Army during World
War II from 1945 to 1947.
He married Florence Failing on Sept. 21, 1947, in the town
of Ellisburg.
Mr. Claflin was an administrative manager for Westinghouse
Electric Supply in Watertown for 36 years retiring in 1984.
He owned and operated Doug’s Sharp All Shop for 27 years,
turning the shop over to his son Douglas, Jr. in 2010.
He was a life member of the Adams VFW.
Surviving are his wife, Florence; a daughter, Sandra Panetta;
a son and his wife, Douglas Jr. and Lynn Claflin; a grandson,
Brandon Douglas Claflin, all of Adams; several nieces and
nephews.
Three brothers, Carl, William and Winifred, two sisters,
Vera Denny and Ruth Glazier and a son-in-law, Ernest Panetta,
all died before him.
