Ralph A. Roggie

LOWVILLE, N.Y.  —  Ralph A. Roggie, 78, of Waters Road, died Friday evening, Jan. 21, at his home under the care of his family and Lewis County Hospice.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 24, at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., with Rev. Edward Roggie, Brother, Rev. Evan Zehr and Rev. Keith Zehr, officiating. Spring burial will be in Croghan Mennonite Cemetery. Calling hours are 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 23, at the funeral home. 

Born
Aug. 28, 1932, at home, in the town of Denmark, a son of the late Samuel and Bertha Yousey Roggie, he grew up working on the family farm and attended Lowville Academy and Eastern Mennonite Bible College. He worked on the Milton Lehman farm in Ellisburg and on the Harvey Gingerich farm on the Number Three Road in Lowville.  

On March 19, 1952, he married Frieda M. Jantzi at the Lowville Mennonite Church with Rev. Lloyd Boshart officiating. 

The couple moved to a dairy farm on Waters Road and later purchased the farm, owning and operating it until retiring in 2001. The farm is now owned and operated by Mr. Roggie’s grandson, Jeremy Steria, and his wife Andrea. 

Ralph was a member of Lowville Mennonite Church and a longtime member of Lewis County Farm Bureau.  He enjoyed planting and tending to his trees and sitting on his porch.  

Mr. Roggie is survived by his wife of nearly 59 years, Frieda; four children and their spouses, Elizabeth and Keith Steria of Glenfield, Joyce and Jay Zehr, Beaver Falls, Glendon and Irene Roggie, Lowville, Lois and Joey Roberts, Lowville; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Delores Roggie, Alvin and Alice Roggie, Edward and Betty Roggie, Andrew and Eunice Roggie, all of Lowville; two sisters, Doris and Alvin Steria Jr., Croghan, Martha Nortz, Lowville; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Ruthann Roggie Lowville; several nieces, nephews and cousins.  

He was predeceased by a brother, Daniel C. Roggie who died Dec. 10, 2006.
