Dennis M. McGurn, 61, of West Church Street,
died Friday, Jan. 27, at University Hospital, Syracuse.
Born April 12, 1950 in Watertown, the son of Franklin G. and
Hilda I. Monroe McGurn, he graduated in 1968 from Indian
River High School and had attended Jefferson Community
College, Watertown.
He married Cheryl C. Kinne on Sept. 11, 1976, at her
parent’s home in Brownville.
Denny was employed with Champion International, Deferiet,
for 32 years, and North America Tape, Watertown for the past
three years.
He was a member of the National Rifle Association.
An avid reader, Denny also enjoyed playing golf, watching
sports, especially the New York Giants, gardening, spending
time with his children and grandchildren and loved his dog
“Max”.
Denny was a longtime supporter of the American Red Cross and
donated over 6 gallons of blood in his lifetime.
Surviving besides his wife are two daughters and their
husbands, Alissa and Joe O’Melia, Calcium, and Hayley and
Joe Cook, Antwerp; a brother and his wife, Jack and Barbara
McGurn, Glen Burnie, Md.; five grandchildren, Alannah, EJ,
Cassidy, Sydney and Jared; a great aunt, Margaret Shorkey,
Evans Mills; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A grandson, Jeremiah Lee Cook, died July 19, 2007.
A gathering of friends and family will begin at 7 pm Tuesday
evening at the Robert Markwick Post 798 in Philadelphia.
Donations may be made to the SPCA, South Jefferson
Ambulance, American Red Cross or the charity of one’s
choice.
