GLENFIELD, N.Y. —
John Salsburg “Jack” Flynn, 76, of Blue Street,
Glenfield, died Monday, Jan. 31, at his home, under the
loving care of his family and Lewis County Hospice.
A celebration of
Jack’s life will take place 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, at
Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., with Deacon Ronald J.
Pominville officiating. A calling hour will be held 10 to 11
a.m. prior to the service, at the funeral home.
Born July
20, 1934, in Lowville, a son of the late John Thomas and
Lena Salsburg Flynn, he graduated in 1952 from Lowville
Academy, and enlisted in the United States Air Force,
retiring in September 1956 with an honorable discharge.
He married Shirley Ann Fey, daughter of Albert and Julia
Moltz Fey, on Sept. 24, 1955, at St. Joseph’s Catholic
Church, Boonville.
Jack worked
at Griffiss Air Force Base, Rome, and completed a jet engine
course. When the Air Force moved the B52’s to
Arizona, Jack opted to stay in Lewis County. He worked at
various jobs until hired by Georgia Pacific Paper Co., later
named, Lyons Falls Pulp and Paper Co., and retired after 33
years of service, as a weigh master.
Jack was a
communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Glenfield and
was a longtime member of Lowville American Legion #162.
He was always active in sports and pitched baseball for
several Lewis County Ball teams and played semi-pro ball in
Utica. He was a Little League baseball coach for eight
years in Glenfield. He loved to hunt and fish, golf
and bowl.
Surviving are his
wife of 55 years, Shirley; four sons, Michael (Jeanette),
John, and Patrick, (Jan), all of Lowville, and Andrew,
Franklinton, N.C.; three daughters, Angela (Richard) Tabolt
of Croghan, Pamela (Ronald) McCanney, West Monroe, and Kelly
Flynn, Glenfield; 21 grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren; a sister, Jane (Alfred) Loson, Newark,
N.Y.; nieces and nephews.
Two grandsons, David Tabolt and Lucas Flynn, died before
him.
