Dorothy L. Arvanites

LOWVILLE, N.Y.  —  Dorothy Louise Arvanites, 88, of Elm Street, died in the company of her five children and the attentive care of Lewis County Hospice on Thursday, Jan. 27.

Born Feb. 27, 1922, in Middletown, the daughter of Anna and Dokson Jones, she was a graduate of Middletown High School, and attended dietitian school in New York City. 

Locally, she worked at Beaches Landing and Pa Pa Joe’s for many years. 

She also owned her own professional seamstress business at home, and was known as the “ phantom seamstress of Elm Street ” for over 40 years.

She loved to read, work on puzzles and traveled many times to the north and southwest.

Surviving are three daughters, two sons and their spouses, Dorothy Monnat and her husband Steve, Lowville, Jane Arvanites, Albany, Andrea Lee and her husband, Dennis, Lowville, James Mark Arvanites and his wife, Colleen, Lowville, Dokson Arvanites and his wife, Gale, South Pasadena, Calif.; her former husband, James H. Arvanites, Campbell St., Lowville; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Dorothy requested no calling hours and was honored privately by her family.
