Joseph J. Turpin

DEFERIET, N.Y. –  Joseph J. Turpin, Jr., 92, 63 Anderson Ave., died of natural causes at his home Wednesday evening.

A lifetime resident of Deferiet, he was born there on January 5, 1914, the son of Joseph and Sophia Halko Turpin and he attended Catholic schools.  He worked for the St. Regis Paper Co., Deferiet as a Pulp Maker and then as a Roll Finisher.  He married Helen Adams at St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Deferiet on October 4, 1938.  He was a member of the Deferiet Senior Citizens and AARP.

He is survived by his wife and his two sons, David Turpin, Cloverdale, California and Dennis Turpin, Deferiet, 4 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.  Also surviving are his siblings, Josephine Demers, Great Bend and Patricia Ricci, New Smyrna Beach, Florida and several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his sister, Mary Martin and a brother, Edward Turpin.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 4th at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of the Bossuot-Lundy Funeral Home, Inc., Carthage, with the Rev. Andrew Mulvaney, Pastor of St. Rita’s Catholic Church, officiating.  Visitation will be held at the Funeral Home for two hours prior to the funeral from 9 to 11 a.m. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to either the Carthage Area Rescue Squad or the Deferiet Volunteer Fire Department.
