GREIG, N.Y. —
Kathy Fenton, 56, wife of Fred Wood, of Brantingham Road,
died Thursday evening at her home, under the loving care of
her family and Lewis County Hospice.
The funeral will be held 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13, at Iseneker
Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville, with Rev. Billie Jean Melton
and Rev. Joan Ripp officiating. Burial will be in Beaches
Bridge Cemetery in the spring. Calling hours are from 2 to 4
p.m. Sunday prior to the funeral service.
Born Sept. 18, 1954, in Colorado Springs, Colo., a daughter
of Carl H. and Audrey Roy Fenton, she graduated in 1972 from
South Lewis Central School, and attended nurse’s aide
training at Howard G. Sackett Technical Center. This was the
first nurse’s aide training class that worked at the Lewis
County Extended Care Facility in Lowville.
Following graduation, she worked at the Lewis County
Extended Care Facility as a nurse’s aide for many years.
She then worked for Lewis County ARC for two years as a
house parent at the geriatric home in Castorland. Kathy then
worked for CNY DDSO, until her retirement in September 2009.
She married Frederick P. Wood on Dec. 28, 2006, at their
home, with Pastor Joan Ripp, officiating. The marriage was
later blessed at Talcottville United Methodist Church .
She enjoyed cooking, making cakes, gardening, sewing, and
church projects at Greig United Methodist Church and
Talcottville United Methodist Church.
Kathy also enjoyed traveling, especially spending time in
Hampton Beach, N.H., and spending time at camp.
She was a caregiver and friend to many, and liked to help
others. She dearly loved her family, and spending time with
her nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Fred, she is survived by two
step-children, Lisa Marie and Steven Wood of Marlboro, MA;
her parents, Carl and Audrey Fenton of Glenfield; a sister,
Karen Freeman and her husband, David of Turin; a brother,
Kenny Fenton of Glenfield; her nieces and nephews, Chad
Freeman of Geneva, NY; Kristi Fenton of Kirschnerville;
Erica and Kyle Fenton of Glenfield; three great nieces;
aunts, uncles and cousins; a very special friend, Kelly
Tabolt Balash; and her dog Sadie.
A sister, Kim Fenton, died in August 1980. An uncle, Nelson
Fenton, a great nephew, Joseph Shinnick, and by her dog, Zeb,
also died before her.
