Evelyn R. Myers

WEST CARTHAGE, N.Y.  —  Evelyn Ruth Myers, 85, of 63 Madison St., died early Tuesday morning, Feb. 23, at Carthage Area Hospital. 

Born March 5, 1924, in Harrisburg, the daughter of Everett and Ruth Hays Greenwood, she graduated in 1942 from Copenhagen High School. 

A marriage to Merle Myers ended in divorce.

She was employed by Faichney Thermometer, in Watertown; she also worked for ACME Market in West Carthage for 20 years until she retired in 1979. During her retirement she worked for Green Thumb in Watertown.

She was a member of the Carthage Area Hospital Ladies Auxiliary. She would donate to the Red Cross. 

She was an avid reader and she loved crocheting and knitting and bingo.

Surviving are three children, Richard and Donna Myers, Alexandria Bay, Sharon and Malcolm Campbell, Black River, and Vicky Forney, Carthage; a brother, Robert Greenwood; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

A sister, Shirley Johnson, and a brother, Everett Greenwood Jr., and a son-in-law, Mike Forney, all died before her.

Calling hours will be held 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 27, at Bossout Lundy Funeral Home, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage. A funeral service will be held noon Saturday in the chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Linda J. Harris, pastor of the United Methodist Church in Carthage, officiating. Spring burial will be in Swinburne Cemetery.
