GLENFIELD, N.Y. —
Delilia M. “Tootsie” Gorczyca, 91, died Sunday evening,
Feb. 26, at her home on the Pine Grove Road under the care
of her grandson, Richie and his wife, Lori with whom she
lived and Lewis County Hospice.
A special thank you to her angels: Deb Blair, Mary McIntyre,
Martha Beadore and hospice nurse Kathy Parkosewich. They all
helped in many ways.
“Tootsie” was born June
27, 1920, in Martinsburg, a daughter of Alexander Joseph and
Ione Mary Strife Maciejko, she attended rural school in the
town of Turin.
She married Edward Joseph Gorczyca on Sept. 29, 1940, at St.
Mary’s Catholic Church with Rev. Laporte officiating.
Together the couple owned and operated dairy farms on the
Middle Road, now known as the Lee Road, and on the Whiskey
Lane Road for 23 years before moving into their Pine Grove
Road home.
Mrs. Gorczyca was also employed by AMF for a number of
years. Her husband, Edward J. passed away on June 3, 1981.
She especially loved to drive her John Deere tractor, work
in her garden and care for her animals.
In addition to her grandson, Richard J. and wife, Lori
Gorczyca, “Tootsie” is survived by her dear friends of
many years, Joyce Hill and Kevin and Patty Moshier; her son
and daughter-in-law, Richard and Sandra of Turin; her
granddaughter Heather Gorczyca; her great granddaughter
Miranda Rys and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Gorczyca was a member and communicant of St. Mary’s
Catholic Church where a funeral Mass will be said 10 a.m.
Wednesday, Feb. 29, with Rev. Christopher Carrara
officiating. Burial at the Brantingham Cemetery will be in
the spring.
Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, at
Sundquist Funeral Home.
