Michael B. Powlin

LOWVILLE, N.Y.  —  Michael B. “Mikey P.” Powlin, 88, formerly of State Street, died Wednesday, March 5, at Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility under the care of his family, the nursing home staff, and Lewis County Hospice. 

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, at Matinsburg Cemetery with Rev. Timothy J. Soucy, Pastor of St. Peter’s Catholic church, officiating. 

Born Oct. 27, 1919, in the town of Martinsburg, a son of Theodore and Katherine Bosko Powlin, he attended District 17 rural school on the Flat Rock Road.  

He married Stella V. Zelazowski on July 5, 1937at St. Hedwig’s Church in Houseville. Together with his wife, the couple owned and operated a dairy farm on the Rector Road, Lowville, from 1943 until retiring in 1977. Mrs. Powlin died May 18, 1985. 

Mr. Powlin
was a communicant of St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church, Houseville.  

He was a member of the Moose Lodge, Lowville, Tug Hill Fish and Game Club, and bowled in the Moose Lodge bowling league.  

As an outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and trapping.  He enjoyed socializing with his friends.  Mr. Powlin built one of the first air sleds in Lewis County in the 1950s.

Surviving are four daughters and their husbands, Mary and Richard Bilak, Anchorage, Alaska; Rose “Sue” and Harold Jr. “Bucky” Campany, Carthage; Patricia and Richard Leviker, Lowville; Jacquelyn Powlin and her husband Russ Prashaw, Lowville; 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  

Three brothers, Alex Powlin, and twin brothers, who died in infancy; and three sisters, Katy Snyder, Ann Irwin, and Mary Snyder, all died before him.      

A funeral Mass will be said 11 a.m. Monday, March 10, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Lowville with Rev. Timothy J. Soucy, pastor, officiating. Spring burial will be in Martinsburg Cemetery.  Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, March 9, at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.
